Flour - King Aurthur Flour, this is the finest grain ground to perfection. Contributes to my perfect bread.
Butter - Please, Please, real butter. Land O' Lakes is hit quality real butter, best flavor. Most store brands work and for cost reasons, I use, but when Land O' Lakes goes on sale, I stock up.
Authentic Foreign food?- Go to your local foreign market and look for products with another language on it. Still not sure, follow the little Asian women around and see what they are buying.
Honey - really, I am not partial to any kind of Honey, however, Clover leaf or blossom is the most popular because it is in high abundance, I personally look for the largest container, and that is how I choose my honey.
Fruits and Veggies - If at all possible, look for a farm market or Co-op group that brings fresh produce in strait from the local farms. Most produce companies (I know because I used to work for one) bring in Fruits and Veggies from all over the country even when they have a local supplier. What this means is their produce is picked way early and sprayed with chemicals to force them to ripen on the shippers schedule. This kind of produces fills 85-90% of produce in the market. When you find local farmers, you get the real thing. This ties back into "expensive" but trust me on this one, well worth it.
Ingredients - Always look at the ingredients before the price, then put it in the cart if they both jive well. Example, when buying peanut butter, Peanuts should always be the first ingredient, not sugar or high fructose corn syrup. Obliviously, we are trying to step away from hydrogenated oils, there are now many companies starting to investigate other methods to get the same result. So, Sugar should be down the list three or four spots, then you look at the price and see what they are trying to charge. You will find so many items list very fake fillers in the first 5 ingredients, avoid these, what you are tasting isn't real, it is artificial.
Flavoring - this leads way into my next point, I can't believe I have to say this, Artificial flavoring = bad, natural or real flavoring = good. I am for real, who is going to make it taste better, man (artificial) or God (natural). Enough said.
There are very few brands that I endorse, but a good rule of thumb to live by, if you find a brand you like, chances are they own and operate other brands as well. Do some research and look into the company behind your favorite brands. You may discover they also make the same thing in a cheaper version. Brands can be purchased and sold like any other marketable material. I worked for a company that acquires new brands all the time. So pay attention to who is making your favorite foods.
Ok, That is all for now.
