Blood Type

First, a little background:
I started donating blood at 17, have two children, and am an active duty member of the military. Needless to say, I've had my blood type tested many times through the years. To the best of my husband's knowledge, he never had his blood type tested until he was in the ER when we were first married and asked the doctor to type his blood since they were doing a bunch of blood work anyway. Our children have never been tested/typed, even with all of the blood work done when our daughter was a baby. I'm curious by nature and I over prepare...

I ordered this kit on Tuesday; it got here on Friday; and we did the tests today. I ordered the package of 5, since the website has $30 minimum order.

We did Hubby first to show the kids, then each of our children. Our three year old didn't understand why we needed to poke her finger to do the test; we had to hold her hand still, and she cried more because of it. Our six year old finally understood we weren't trying to cause him pain and he said the poke from the lancet didn't even hurt.

Hubby is B+ (already knew this, but now we have a record at home); our daughter is O-; and our son is O+. Who would have guessed? By the way, I'm O+.

This website has a Blood type & Rh factor calculator that stated we could have either B or O type with Rh + or - for our children. I honestly don't know of anyone in the family (direct blood relation that is) who is Rh-. Hubby's parents are A+ and B+ and mine are both O+. Now I'm going to need to call, double check, and find out for sure; and ask what my nieces and nephews are.

I just never thought having a Rh- child was a possibility.... Now I'm worried about the shots and stuff our daughter will have to get when she some day has children of her own. A part of me is hoping the test is wrong and with more advanced technology in a medical laboratory she will someday know different.
