I started to make his cake yesterday. I used the cake mentioned in the NieNie Dialogues, knowing how much Hubby loved chocolate. The actual recipe is from Conversations With a Cupcake. If you are unfamiliar with Stephanie's story, I highly suggest you read some of her old blog entries or that of her sister's at CJane.
This morning Hubby woke early and make a huge breakfast. We had left over buttermilk from the cake, so he made pancakes from scratch. Along with fresh pancakes, we had hash browns, eggs, sausage links, and orange juice. Yum. We were so stuffed we couldn't eat lunch later.
This afternoon we sang "Happy Birthday" and enjoyed the chocolate cake with some vanilla ice cream. I used too much cacao chips in the frosting, and didn't let it cool enough before mixing, so it is more of an icing and not as light in color as the original. Oh, well. It was still good. And, yes, they wanted pictures of eating the cake.
Hubby had to work this evening, which is why we had the big breakfast and ate the cake early.
